Welcome To

Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach features many of the South Bay’s most spectacular homes.

Welcome to Manhattan Beach

Affluent, laid-back, and immensely livable, this is coastal California at its finest

Originally incorporated in 1912, Manhattan Beach has long been a draw for the affluent and those who favor an active, on-the-go lifestyle. But it's more than just a beachside playground for the ultra-wealthy. Excellent schools, plenty to do, and an ideal location (LAX is 15 minutes away, while Santa Monica, L.A., and Long Beach are each a 40-minute drive) make this area the perfect landing spot for young families and commuters seeking a casual oceanfront lifestyle.

Manhattan Beach features many of the South Bay’s most spectacular homes. Extravagant mansions, beach bungalows, and modest luxury homes dot each neighborhood. Residences along The Strand— which fronts the Pacific—are grand affairs that command top dollar.

It’s a similar story for houses clustered around Manhattan Beach’s charming downtown. Move beyond the oceanfront, however, and there’s plenty of upscale affordability close to schools, abundant shopping, and excellent dining.

What to Love

  • The pinnacle of California's oceanfront lifestyle and one of the premier seaside communities in the country
  • Sensational location for active families—beaches, parks, restaurants, and schools are all within an hour’s drive of L.A.
  • Eclectic and highly walkable downtown, including the historic Manhattan Beach Pier

People & Lifestyle

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast who appreciates an active lifestyle, then you’ll love Manhattan Beach. The city carries massive appeal for beach volleyball players and surfers. The beach itself is wide, flat, and outfitted with permanent nets while the coastal waters just off the beach call to surfers of all skill levels.

The walkability factor is exceptionally high in Manhattan Beach. The beach, The Strand, and downtown are made for exploration by foot. And no matter where you are in the city, you’re less than 2.5 miles from the Pacific—half of the town is less than 1.5 miles away. Add in the great schools and an eclectic food and shopping scene, Manhattan Beach is an unparalleled place to call home for all ages.

Dining, Shopping & Entertainment

While Manhattan Beach remains mostly residential, it possesses several of the South Bay’s most dynamic commercial areas. Top among them is Downtown Manhattan Beach. Home to over 100 boutiques, restaurants, and specialty retailers, the area also features the standout Manhattan Beach Certified Farmers Market.

Also downtown is Nick’s Manhattan Beach’s casual, classic American fare and upscale The Strand House overlooking the Manhattan Beach Pier. Open-air gastropub Simmzy’s and delectable Manhattan Beach Creamery are the district’s top specialty spots to grab a beer or sweet treat, respectively.

For a little inland retail therapy, Manhattan Village has over 80 stores and restaurants, including Apple, Macy’s, and sweetgreen.

Things to Do

Life in Manhattan Beach revolves around two things—the beach and the ocean. The city’s western edge is always ready for a match. It plays host to the AVP’s annual Manhattan Beach Volleyball Open, the “granddaddy of beach volleyball tournaments.”

The Manhattan Beach Pier stands out as one of the area’s most popular attractions and is the West Coast’s oldest concrete pier. For those looking to get out on the water, El Porto is the ideal place for new and intermediate surfers to hone their skills.

Popular annual events include the Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks and the Summer Concert Series in 18-acre Polliwog Park.

Manhattan Beach is home to several excellent schools. Top educational opportunities include:
