Welcome To

El Segundo

El Segundo is a city that’s always on the move.

Welcome to El Segundo

Charming beachside gem that’s not to be overlooked

Translated from Spanish, El Segundo means “The Second,” a nod to its status as the home of Standard Oil Company’s second West Coast refinery, now operating under the Chevron moniker. The business roots run deep here.

El Segundo is a city that’s always on the move. Its proximity to LAX, along its northern border, makes it ideal for aerospace firms, including Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and The Aerospace Corporation—El Segundo's four largest employers. But the major business interests don’t stop there—toy manufacturer Mattel and the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers also call the city home.

Set apart from the refinery and commercial and industrial spaces is one of Southern California’s most underrated residential locales. More akin to a bucolic, hidden city amidst a surrounding sea of urban sprawl, El Segundo features an abundance of accessible luxury. Its diverse market includes townhouses and single-family residences that run from $1.5 million to near $4 million.

What to Love

  • Fun, energetic, and highly walkable (and bikeable) Main Street downtown
  • Excellent schools and park system, including a nearly two-mile stretch of beach
  • Hyper-convenient location for those in the aerospace industry, LAX super-commuters, or individuals who work in Downtown L.A.

People & Lifestyle

Don’t let the presence of big businesses or the proximity to LAX fool you. El Segundo’s small-town vibes and immensely charming central business district prove to be an irresistible lure, especially for those who want to keep L.A.’s urban sprawl at bay without the punishing commute. It’s the perfect area for individuals who would rather spend more time at home than in their car.

The city as a whole skews young. Those aged 18 to 44 make up 60% percent of the population while another 20% falling under 18. Good schools add to the appeal as does access to many of L.A.’s top oceanside destinations—Santa Monica is 20 minutes away while Venice, Marina Del Rey, and Manhattan Beach are all less than ten minutes.

Dining, Shopping & Entertainment

Although El Segundo boasts several commercial districts—mostly concentrated along the Pacific Coast Highway—the genuine standout is the walkable Downtown El Segundo. Aptly named Main Street, the area is a charming, half-mile stretch of eclectic boutique shops, pub houses and bars, and superb dining.

Highlights include upscale Mexican favorite Sausal and Italian no-frills, all-taste Rinaldi’s Deli and Cafe. Brewport Tap House and Kitchen plays off the city’s aerospace influence and has a vast selection of draft beer. Their front patio and back beer garden add to the festive atmosphere.

For a more modern shopping experience, The Point on the Pacific Coast Highway includes over 40 shops and restaurants and plays host to live music and outdoor yoga classes.

Things to Do

Main Street may garner most of the attention, but El Segundo has an excellent park system, including several pocket plazas to rest and relax in, The Lakes at El Segundo 9-hole golf course, and several recreational facilities, including the Campus El Segundo Athletic Fields.

Right next door to the Campus Fields is the UCLA Health Training Center, the headquarters and home training center of the Los Angeles Lakers.

El Segundo is home to a number of excellent schools. Top educational opportunities include:
